In the United Arab Emirates, four units have become commercially operational. This has become a successful model for new nuclear countries that are interested in the FANR experience, starting from construction to the commissioning of reactors into operation. As noted by FANR Director Krister Viktorsson, licensing 267 reactor operators and senior reactor operators in the Baraka NPP in accordance with the requirements of the operating company will ensure their readiness and competitiveness for the operation of the NPP. FANR continues to fulfill its mission, established by legislation of the UAE in the field of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

FANR Director Krister Viktorsson announced at a press conference in Abu Dhabi about the upcoming 8th International Symposium on Radiation Protection System, which will be held in October 2025. More than 600 experts will discuss recent trends and developments in the field of radiation protection and safety, among other topics. Given the changing landscape in nuclear energy, COP28 will promote nuclear energy to 2050 and the integration of new technologies, such as SMR and artificial intelligence, aimed at strengthening regulatory frameworks that support the UAE economy and fulfill our mission in protecting the public.

In addition to this, in 2024, FANR concluded 15 research agreements with various countries on the issue of reactor materials, waste management, radiation safety, and other aspects. 18 national and international training sessions were organized for preparedness for emergencies, and 13 training seminars were also held through the Emergency Response Center. FANR conducted 50 inspections on licensing issues, as well as 96 inspections on import and export control to ensure compliance with licenses required by FANR.
